Simply Honest.

The lessons that stayed with me

My dad taught me to work hard, be honest, and treat people with respect. Above everything else, he taught me integrity.

When I was little, I thought it was strange that he waved at strangers driving down the road. Years later, I caught myself doing the same thing. I finally understood: a small act of kindness lets someone know you see them and care.

I still remember helping him deliver feed to farmers’ homes when I was about five years old, struggling with bags nearly as big as I was. Those days taught me about showing up, lending a hand, and taking pride in an honest day’s work.

Today, I’m raising a family and running Genesis Roofing & Repair. The geography has changed. My values haven’t.

I still hold the door for strangers for awkwardly long amounts of time. I consider that one of my best characteristics.

What those values mean at Genesis

Roofing began for me as a summer job in high school. Nearly 30 years later, I bring that experience—and the lessons my dad taught me—to the way I run this business.

I believe you deserve an honest assessment, a clear explanation of the work, and transparency about the price. You should feel comfortable asking questions and know who is responsible for your project.

My name is Steven Schmit. When you choose Genesis, you can speak directly with me. I take pride in the craftsmanship we deliver and responsibility for the commitments we make.

What matters beyond the job

I’m passionate about jail and prison ministry, and about encouraging men and young people who have grown up without a father figure.

To me, being a man means taking responsibility, doing what’s best for your family, and helping the people around you when you can. It means being a good friend, a good neighbor, and someone your community can count on.

Those are the traditions I want to pass on to my family. They’re also the principles I want my business to reflect.

I want Genesis to provide for my family, serve our customers well, and be a business I can be proud of. How we earn our living matters to me as much as what we earn.
